How we use your information

We use your personal information to:

  • register you for and administer the Jingle Paws Challenge;
  • process your donations and, where applicable, Gift Aid;
  • provide information and communications needed to take part in the challenge;

Our lawful bases

Depending on the activity, Cats Protection and Dogs Trust rely on different lawful bases for using your information.

These include:

  • Legitimate interests for campaign administration, supporter stewardship and appropriate post-campaign analysis.
  • Legal obligation where information must be retained or processed for financial, regulatory or Gift Aid purposes.
  • Contract where processing is necessary to provide campaign rewards or fulfilment associated with your participation, such as sending you a fundraising pack associated with this challenge
  • Consent for direct marketing communications where consent is required. For this challenge, we will seek your consent for each charity to contact you separately moving forwards, so you have full control of your onwards marketing preferences.

Marketing from Cats Protection and Dogs Trust

Choosing to receive marketing from Cats Protection and choosing to receive marketing from Dogs Trust are separate choices.

Your preferences will be recorded separately for each charity. Your information will only be used for each charity's direct marketing in accordance with the preference you have given for that charity.

Your participation in the Jingle Paws Challenge does not, by itself, change marketing preferences that you already have with either organisation. If you would like to change the preferences you currently have established with each charity, please use the contact details within each charity’s privacy policy:

Neither charity will have access to the data held by the other charity, where this is not associated with the Jingle Paws Challenge.

Who we share your information with

Your information may be made available to Cats Protection and Dogs Trust colleagues who need it to deliver and administer the Jingle Paws Challenge.

We also use carefully selected service providers to help us run the campaign:

  • Funraisin, which hosts the Jingle Paws registration and fundraising platform where you sign up to the challenge and provide us with your contact details, and payment details for donations.
  • BlueStep, who provide us with the fundraising packs and rewards we send to you for taking part in the challenge.

We require personal information used for the campaign to be appropriately protected when handled by organisations acting on our behalf. We therefore ensure that contractual agreements are in place with our third-party providers to ensure your data is protected, handled securely and only for the purposes of this challenge.

Cookies and online tracking

When you use the Jingle Paws Challenge website, we may use cookies and similar technologies to understand how the campaign is being used and to measure the effectiveness of campaign advertising.

Some of the providers we use for analytics and advertising operate internationally, so limited information collected through these technologies may be processed outside the UK. Where this happens, appropriate safeguards required by UK data protection law will apply.

 Where these technologies are not strictly necessary for the website to operate, they will only be used where you have given your consent. You can choose whether to accept these cookies and can change your choices at any time through the cookie settings on the website.

Further information about the cookies and tracking technologies used for the Jingle Paws Challenge, and how long they are retained, is available in the campaign cookie notice.

What happens to your information after the campaign

Information held within the shared campaign environment will only be kept for as long as it is needed for the joint campaign which ends on 28 February 2027. Once this challenge is completed, we will ensure that the data held in our shared Funraisin platform is securely deleted.

However, some information may need to be retained separately by Cats Protection or Dogs Trust after that point. This includes information transferred into the respective charity's systems for purposes such as:

  • your marketing preferences;
  • donation and transaction records;
  • Gift Aid; and
  • other financial or legal record-keeping requirements.

After 28 February 2027, each charity will be separately responsible for personal information that it has lawfully transferred to and retained in its own systems. Cats Protection and Dogs Trust will each handle that information in accordance with their own privacy policies and retention requirements.

You can continue to contact either charity about information used as part of the joint Jingle Paws Challenge. Where your request relates to information subsequently held by one charity in its own systems, that charity will be responsible for handling your request. Where necessary, Cats Protection and Dogs Trust will work together to make sure that requests relating to the joint campaign are handled appropriately and within the applicable timescales.

Your data protection rights

Depending on the circumstances, you have rights in relation to your personal information, including the right to:

  • ask for a copy of information held about you;
  • ask us to correct inaccurate information;
  • ask us to delete your information;
  • ask us to restrict how information is used;
  • object to certain uses of your information; and
  • withdraw consent where our use of your information is based on your consent.

Where your request relates to shared Jingle Paws information, Cats Protection and Dogs Trust will work together as necessary to deal with it.
